Rhino 700 rolls but no power

I was riding my 2013 Yamaha Rhino 700 in TN with my girlfriend and heard a loud grind before it stopped pulling. It still shifts and can be pushed around. Could this be a snapped belt or something deeper in the transmission?

A loud grind then loss of drive could be a snapped CVT belt, but grinding may also mean internal transmission damage, you can check the belt first, it's easier to inspect before digging into the gearbox.

Sorry to hear about the breakdown!
But with a loud grind like that, it's probably not just a belt..
A snapped belt usually makes more of a slapping sound and you'd still be able to rev the engine without it moving.
It's likely that something broke inside the wet clutch or a gear stripped out in the transmission.
If you're comfortable with it, the first thing I'd do is pull the CVT cover and see what the belt and sheaves look like.
If that all looks good, you're probably looking at splitting the case..
I hope it's a simple fix!!

Most people panic over a snapped belt in a Rhino 700, but chances are it's something deeper in the transmission, belts rarely fail without warning, so assuming the worst first is misleading

Thanks for all the replies. We finally got the Rhino back from our trip, so I can start figuring out what's wrong. Since several of you suggested starting by pulling the CVT cover to check the belt and clutches, that's what I'll do first. If the belt looks fine, what other part inside the gearbox usually fails and causes this kind of noise? I'll open it up this weekend and let you know what I find.
